Where pop meets something indefinable.

Some artists go looking for a style. Grimaud inherited one before he even knew what a chord was.

He grew up in art workshops, surrounded by raw material and people building worlds - the son of sculptor Philippe Bouveret (Niki de Saint Phalle). In those workshops, nobody talked about "works of art." They talked about material resistance - about how much an object can carry without breaking.

Grimaud took that lesson and carried it elsewhere: into melodies you feel you already know, into a voice placed right at the edge of silence, into songs built like lightweight sculptures - the kind that make you wonder how they stay standing, and that you can't stop looking at for exactly that reason.

A guitarist by training, he draws much of his inspiration from Hip-Hop, French Touch, and artists such as Prince, Sting and John Mayer.

La fin du monde

With his new album La fin du monde - recorded between Paris and Amsterdam with producer Vincent Doorman - Grimaud delivers a statement of rupture, but with a certain gentleness. Like Tinguely building machines destined to self-destruct on the forecourt of the Centre Pompidou, he writes songs that carry their own ending within them. Endings you keep postponing by hitting repeat, again and again.

"I love a girl who doesn't exist - when her eyes shine, my brain goes blank. 90's guilt, obviously; the girls back then, they were really something, weren't they?"

That line - "J'aime une fille qui n'existe pas" - opens onto something absurd and honest at the same time. A love declaration to a fantasy, owned without irony. Dada would do exactly the same: naming the unreal with all the seriousness of the real.

Live

For the release of this new album, Grimaud (vocals, guitar and programming) performs live alongside Eric Bedoucha, a seasoned drummer of the French scene - the alchemy of a duo blending live music and backing tracks with remarkable chemistry.
